The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to by law.

You can use the National Minimum Wage calculator at https://www.gov.uk/minimum-wage-calculator-employers to check if you’re paying a worker the National Minimum Wage or if you owe them payments from past years.

The new rates of National Minimum Wage which come into effect on 1 April 2021 are: –

Aged 23 and above (National Living Wage rate) (previously age 25 to 31/03/21)£8.91 per hour
Aged 21-22 inclusive£8.36 per hour
Aged 18-20 inclusive£6.56 per hour
Aged under 18 (but above compulsory school leaving age)£4.62 per hour
Apprentices aged under 19£4.30 per hour
Apprentices aged over 19 but in the first year of their apprenticeship£4.30 per hour

If we run your payroll, then we will endeavour to check if anybody is the under the National Minimum Wage and let you know.  However, this remains the employer’s responsibility so we would urge you to check that all of your workforce are being employed legally.

To check National Minimum Wage rates for previous years please visit https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates.
